We are pleased to announce that the UN-gear.eu website went live May 2009.

UN Gear

In Spring 2008 a consortium of NGOS who are the focal point for gender equality and reform within Europe, Oxfam NOVIB, ACTSA, The European Women’s Lobby Group, Women in Development Europe (WIDE) decided to step up a gear for the call for a a UN Agency for Women.    This had already been called upon by Kofi Annan as part of his handover speech.

The consortium wanted a site ready to go live in July 2008 which would allow petitioners to add their name to an online petition calling for a UN Agency for women whilst in addition be able to actively email both the UN and their own local Minister of Foreign Affairs calling for this to be put in place.

The website’s architecture had to be incredibly simply to use due to the number of differing European wide nationalities that would be using the site whose mother tongue wasn’t English.  Ready for June 2008 webSEOlive designed & created an open source php content management system that fulfilled this criteria, integrating their logo and which gave flexibility to add on more camapaign and petitions as appropriate in addition integrated Wordpress to make the most of its RSS feed.  A flash functionality was created to allow the editors of the site upload new facts to  a pictorial map as they were published rather than having to rely on an agency to do this for them which would have incurred extra expense.

Cross national consortiums take a little longer to create content than a single body and the site was finally launched May 15 2009.  This is a vital cause and we sincerely hope that it does reach its worthy objective.
